It is estimated that 14-20% of people in USA have GERD and as much as 70% of them have nocturnal heartburn and reflux.

At the 71st. annual American College of Gastroenterology meeting, a team of investigators reported on the results of trials done on nocturnal heartburn and reflux in patients with GERD.

668 patients who had GERD in the past 3 months were included in the trial. Of these 303 had nocturnal heartburn and reflux. The results show that GERD patients who suffered nocturnal heartburn and regurgitation are 8 times more likely to have severe GERD.
